Tratando de averiguar la identidad de la dueña, Malena comienza una aventura policíaca en la que se enfrenta con la vacuidad y la monotonía de su vida. En el camino descubre sus propios intereses de los que no era conciente, y en especial su sensibilidad por el arte.

A lo largo de la novela, una voz en off presenta consejos y trucos de limpieza que poco a poco, a medida que la protagonista empieza a estar más en contacto con ella misma, se convierten en reflexiones. Una novela extraordinaria para mujeres "que no se encuentran".
